CITU Issues Strike Notice in 40 Sriperumbudur Units for Samsung Workers’ Protest Support

The Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) has intensified its campaign against Samsung India by announcing a strike in 40 manufacturing facilities, which include Hyundai, JK Tyres, and Yamaha, situated in Sriperumbudur, Irungattukkotai, and Oragadam, where the union is officially recognized.

The strike is set to begin on March 13 as a demonstration of solidarity with the Samsung India Thozhilalargal Sangam, which has recently been established. This action comes in response to the suspension of 17 workers associated with the union by Samsung India.

In total, there are CITU-supported unions in 58 facilities in the area; however, only 40 have acknowledged the strike notice. The remaining unions will be notified via email or postal service, as stated by sources.

This notice follows unsuccessful negotiations between the Sangam and Samsung India management aimed at resolving the two-week deadlock regarding the suspended workers.

Last Friday, employees from various industrial units affiliated with CITU expressed their support for the striking Samsung workers by participating in protests in multiple locations, including Oragadam, Irungattukkotai, and Sriperumbudur.

In a recent announcement, Samsung India claimed that a certain group of workers attempted to disrupt operations and compromise the industrial harmony at the facility. The company emphasized that it maintains a strict policy against any illegal activities that disturb workplace stability. “It is essential for all employees to comply with company regulations, and those who breach these policies will face disciplinary measures following the appropriate procedures,” the statement added.
