Delhi’s Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Sunday accused the former Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government of leaving the state’s finances ‘depleted’ before the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) assumed control.

CM Rekha Gupta also promised that the initiative to grant ₹2,500 per month to women in the capital—a key electoral pledge of the BJP—would be executed with ‘thorough planning.’

Claims by CM Rekha Gupta

During a press conference, Rekha Gupta highlighted that the government has been conducting several meetings over the past three days to assess the financial situation.

“In these discussions with officials, we evaluated the financial health… the former administration had left the public exchequer depleted,” she remarked.

Responding to inquiries regarding the monthly assistance of ₹2,500 for women, the Delhi Chief Minister stated, “This is a significant initiative for women in Delhi, and we will put it into action with careful planning.”

The Aam Aadmi Party has yet to comment on these allegations.

BJP’s commitment of ₹2,500 for women

Earlier, it was announced that the first installment of the monthly assistance would be deposited into the accounts of all qualified women by March 8.

“Realizing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision is the duty of all 48 BJP MLAs in the capital. We are committed to fulfilling all our pledges, including financial aid for women. Women will undoubtedly receive monetary support in their accounts by March 8,” the Delhi CM said.

‘AAP must justify every rupee’

Earlier in the day, CM Rekha Gupta attended a BJP legislative party meeting, where she announced that the first Assembly session would commence on Monday, February 24, during which a new Speaker and Deputy Speaker will be elected.

The Delhi CM further stated that the BJP-led government would present the outstanding CAG reports during the three-day Assembly session, asserting that “the previous AAP government will be held accountable for every rupee derived from the hard work of Delhi’s residents.”
