Delhi Elections 2025: On Wednesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi responded to Aam Admi Party (AAP) chief Arvind Kejriwal’s assertion that the Bharatiya Janata Party-led Haryana government is “contaminating” the Yamuna river. PM Modi remarked that he also consumes water from the Yamuna and questioned whether the Haryana administration would risk poisoning it to “harm the prime minister.”

“Yamuna water is consumed by judges, diplomats, as well as the underprivileged; how can one assume that Haryana would poison it to harm Modi?” he stated during a rally in Delhi.

“A former Chief Minister of Delhi has made appalling allegations against the people of Haryana. Out of fear of defeat, individuals from ‘AAP-da’ have become unsettled. Are the people of Haryana any different from those in Delhi? Don’t the relatives of those residing in Haryana also live in Delhi? Can the residents of Haryana poison the water that their own people drink?” PM Modi emphasized.

“AAP-da has solicited votes under the guise of cleaning the Yamuna, and now they shamelessly claim that such an issue doesn’t secure votes,” PM Modi remarked, targeting the AAP and Arvind Kejriwal.

“Members of ‘AAP-da’ claim that the people of Haryana are adding poison to the water supplied to Delhi. This not only insults Haryana but also the dignity of all Indians. In our nation, supplying clean drinking water is deemed a virtuous act… Their desperate fear of losing has led them to make such statements. I am confident that Delhi will teach a lesson to those who make such accusations.

“In ” PM Modi declared while conveying his confidence in the BJP ahead of the Delhi elections.

The 2025 Delhi Legislative Assembly election is slated for February 5, with the vote counting scheduled for February 8.

Delhi Elections 2025: Is the Yamuna being ‘contaminated’?

A fierce political confrontation unfolded on Tuesday over Kejriwal’s assertion that the Haryana government is “contaminating” the Yamuna water, with the BJP claiming he cannot be absolved for his “hazardous statement,” while the AAP leader maintained he would not allow the people of Delhi to suffer due to toxic, impure water.

The AAP and BJP also approached the Election Commission, with the BJP requesting to prohibit Kejriwal from campaigning. The poll body sought concrete evidence from the AAP chief to support his assertions.

Kejriwal met with Election Commission officials, accusing the BJP-led Haryana government of intentionally pouring dangerously high levels of ammonia into the Yamuna river, jeopardizing the water supply for Delhi’s residents.

On Monday, Arvind Kejriwal accused the BJP-governed Haryana of supplying “poison-infused” water to Delhi with the intention of harming citizens, to later blame the AAP during the elections.

Delhi Elections 2025: On potential post-poll alliances

During his address, PM Modi also cautioned against the likelihood of a post-poll alliance between the AAP and Congress in Delhi, calling it ‘double AAP-da.’

“AAP-da” considers itself the authority of Delhi, but the people will shatter its arrogance,” PM Modi asserted at the campaign rally.
