Priyanka Gandhi Stands in Solidarity with Bangladeshi Minorities in Parliament

In a recent demonstration in New Delhi, Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi, accompanied by opposition MPs, showcased a bag advocating for the rights of minorities in Bangladesh. This act followed criticism from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which had condemned her for previously carrying a bag that featured the word “Palestine.” The message on her current bag read, “Stand with Bangladeshi Hindus and Christians,” highlighting the attacks on these communities following the removal of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

Priyanka Gandhi took to social media to share an image of her new bag, accompanied by a Sanskrit couplet that emphasized unity: “This is mine, that is yours, say those of narrow minds. For the noble-hearted, however, the entire world is one family.”

The opposition MPs who joined her also held placards conveying their messages against the injustices faced by minorities in Bangladesh, protesting at the Parliament premises.

BJP representatives responded sharply to Priyanka’s actions. Amit Malviya, head of BJP’s IT cell, criticized her, branding her as “a bigger disaster than Rahul Gandhi.” He stated that her actions were merely an attempt at communal virtue signaling. Malviya’s remarks questioned the sincerity of Congress’s support for minorities, accusing them of pandering to certain communities.

In her defense, Priyanka Gandhi argued that the backlash she received was a reflection of patriarchal attitudes that dictate how women should dress. She asserted her right to choose her attire freely, declaring, “Who is going to decide what clothes I wear now? That is typical patriarchy.”

BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra also criticized Priyanka, claiming that the Gandhi family has consistently chosen the path of appeasement, which he argued has led to their electoral defeats.

This statement comes shortly after Priyanka was seen wearing a Palestinian keffiyeh during a meeting with officials from the Palestinian Embassy, further underlining her vocal support for various global causes.
