Maria Sharapova, the former world no. 1, has been chosen for induction into the International Tennis Hall of Fame Class of 2025. This prestigious honor was announced on Thursday, along with the selection of the legendary men’s doubles pair, Mike and Bob Bryan. The induction ceremony is set to take place in August next year.

At 37 years old, Maria Sharapova is one of only 10 women in tennis history to have won all four major championships. Her impressive career includes 36 career singles titles, including 5 Grand Slam victories. In addition, she earned a silver medal at the 2012 London Olympics and held the world no. 1 ranking in the WTA standings for 21 weeks.

Kim Clijsters, the president of the Hall of Fame, praised the Class of 2025 for their impact on the sport of tennis and their ability to inspire fans worldwide. Sharapova made her professional debut in 2021 and quickly rose to prominence, winning her first major title at Wimbledon 2024 at just 17 years old. She went on to achieve success at the US Open in 2006, the Australian Open in 2008, and the French Open in 2012, becoming the 10th woman to complete a Career Grand Slam.

Sharapova’s final major victory came at the 2014 Roland-Garros, where she defeated Simona Halep in a memorable final. She retired from professional tennis following a surprising first-round defeat at the 2020 Australian Open.

Meanwhile, the Bryan brothers, Mike and Bob, have enjoyed unparalleled success in men’s doubles. Both twins, now 46 years old, have held the world no. 1 ranking for over nine years. Mike has won a record 18 Grand Slam titles, while Bob has claimed a total of 23 majors, including 7 in mixed doubles.

The Class of 2025, including Maria Sharapova and the Bryan brothers, will be celebrated at the induction ceremony in Newport next year. Their contributions to the sport of tennis have left a lasting legacy and inspired countless fans around the world.
