South Africa pulled off a stunning victory against Australia in the semi-finals of the Women’s T20 World Cup, knocking the defending champions out of the tournament. Led by Anneke Bosch and captain Laura Wolvaardt, the Proteas chased down a target of 135 with ease, booking their spot in the final for the second consecutive time.

Bosch’s unbeaten 71 off just 48 balls was a standout performance, supported by Wolvaardt’s solid 42 runs. Wolvaardt’s contribution also saw her become the first South African batter to surpass 500 runs in Women’s T20 World Cup history, with a total of 530 runs to her name. In addition, she recently became South Africa’s leading run-scorer in women’s T20Is, closing in on the milestone of 2,000 runs.

Despite being the formidable ‘Aussies’, Australia faltered in the crucial match, unable to match South Africa’s performance in all departments. As stand-in captain Tahlia McGrath admitted, a lacklustre display in a knockout game like this was unacceptable for the team.

The stage is set for the final showdown, as South Africa awaits the winner of the second semi-final between West Indies and New Zealand. The White Ferns will be looking to secure their spot in the final, with veterans Sophie Devine and Suzie Bates aiming to break their silverware hoodoo. It promises to be an exciting conclusion to the tournament, with South Africa vying for their maiden T20 World Cup title.
