The Haryana Congress in-charge announced on Monday that he has offered to resign from his position, taking accountability for the party’s poor performance in the recent elections in the state.

Following discussions regarding the party’s defeat, the announcement was made after several meetings were held to analyze the election results and understand the reasons behind the disappointing outcome.

“I offered my resignation last week after the results. Due to health reasons and my moral obligation in light of the results, I informed the high command that they could replace me if they saw fit,” Babaria stated in an interview with PTI.

He also mentioned that a similar offer was made after the Lok Sabha polls, but no decision has been made yet. Despite no decision being made regarding his resignation in Haryana, Babaria felt it was his duty to offer to step down.

The party leaders, including Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, and other senior members, convened for a review meeting to address the unexpected results in Haryana. A fact-finding team will be formed to speak with candidates and investigate any complaints of EVM discrepancies.

Congress has requested a thorough investigation into the discrepancies found in certain EVMs during the Haryana polls, advocating for these EVMs to be sealed pending further inquiry.

During a meeting with Election Commission officials, Congress leaders raised concerns about multiple complaints regarding EVMs operating at unusually high battery capacities. Despite the party’s confidence in defeating the BJP, the election results demonstrated a different outcome, with the BJP securing 48 seats compared to the Congress’ 37 seats in the 90-member assembly.
