The government is working towards granting access to the PM GatiShakti national master plan (NMP) portal to the private sector in the coming year, with discussions currently in progress, according to an official statement on Saturday. Amardeep Singh Bhatia, the Secretary of the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), mentioned that certain sensitive data layers within the NMP should be protected from exposure.

“We are in the process of identifying and safeguarding this sensitive information. Consultations with the private sector are ongoing, and the necessary details are being finalized. Our goal is to launch the portal for public access this year,” he stated during a video conference with reporters.

Unveiled in October 2021, the initiative aims to enhance infrastructure integration for cost-effective logistics operations. All significant logistics and connectivity projects requiring investments exceeding Rs 500 crore are managed through the NPG.

Presently, the portal is accessible only to governmental bodies at the central and state levels for strategic infrastructure planning and execution. However, discussions on opening up the PM GatiShakti NMP for broader access were held in the GDPDC (Geospatial Data Promotion and Development Committee) under the Department of Science and Technology back in July.

A specialized committee has been established to analyze the NGDR (National Geospatial Data Registry) / UGI (Unified Geospatial Interface) platform created by BISAG-N for data sharing purposes. DPIIT, in collaboration with BISAG-N, aims to establish a system for granting authorized access to users on the NGDR platform, along with providing specific data layers (excluding restricted content decided by ministries) in a view-only format.

The PM Gatishakti National Master Plan, designed by BISAG-N (Bhaskaracharya National Institute for Space Applications and Geoinformatics), operates on a dynamic Geographic Information System (GIS) platform. This platform integrates detailed action plans from all Ministries/Departments into a comprehensive database for effective infrastructural development.
