At least 31 Yemeni journalists were reported killed and 22 others injured in Israeli airstrikes that targeted the headquarters of two prominent newspapers in the Yemeni capital, Sana’a, according to officials on Monday.

The Yemeni Ministry of Health confirmed that the attacks, which occurred on September 10 in Sana’a and Al-Jawf governorate, resulted in a total of 46 fatalities—including five children and 11 women—and injured 165 individuals. Civil defense teams continue to work on recovery efforts amid the rubble, the ministry stated.

The state-run Saba News Agency reported the destruction of the headquarters of the newspapers September 26 and Yemen, resulting in the deaths of numerous media workers. Both newspapers issued a joint statement expressing condolences for the lost journalists and denouncing what they characterized as a targeted assault on press freedom.

“This heinous crime is part of a series of attacks aimed at silencing the voice of truth,” the statement read, urging the United Nations, the Security Council, and global press unions to denounce the airstrike.

The statement further connected the deaths of Yemeni journalists to what it described as a broader pattern of attacks on media personnel in Gaza, where journalists have been killed amid ongoing Israeli military operations that have persisted for nearly two years.

The Israeli airstrikes occurred just days after Houthi forces launched attacks targeting Lydd Airport in Yafa, Ramon Airport in Um al-Rashrash, and a sensitive site in Dimona, with the military reporting that their operation achieved all intended objectives.
