New Delhi: The highly anticipated film Border 2 is scheduled for theatrical release on January 23, 2026, coinciding with Republic Day. Directed by Anurag Singh, the film has generated substantial interest due to its cast and storyline. Lead actor Varun Dhawan recently hosted a ‘#varunsays’ session on X (formerly Twitter), where he addressed some fan inquiries.
During this session, Varun revealed that he has not signed any projects following Border 2, which notably includes Bhediya 2. This announcement surprised fans, especially since Bhediya 2 is part of Maddock Films’ supernatural universe, with its release date initially set for August 14, 2026. Varun’s clarification suggests that Bhediya 2 may not premiere this year.
In response to a fan’s question about his next film, Varun stated, “Not signed any film. There is no sequel of any other film I’m doing. Will decide #varunsays.” He further elaborated in another post, “I haven’t signed any film post #border2 everything else which has come is a rumour.”
This update has led fans to speculate about potential issues between Varun and Maddock Films, particularly as the 2022 film did not achieve blockbuster status but did manage to recover its production costs. Varun Dhawan participated in Stree 2, prompting expectations for a confirmation from the makers.
Regarding Border 2, Varun mentioned that the trailer will be released soon, along with two additional songs. When a user inquired about Major Hoshiar Singh Dahiya’s life and legacy, Varun simply replied, “Sacrifice.”
He also indicated that the film is set against the backdrop of the 1971 conflict, noting that he injured his tailbone during the filming of the Battle of Basantar, where he spent 40 days shooting in Babina alongside real soldiers. When asked what types of roles challenge him the most, Varun responded, “I think real life characters #border2.”
Furthermore, he extended birthday wishes to Diljit Dosanjh, stating, “Paaaji bahut mazaa aaya unke saath.”
In another exchange, a fan asked what attracted him to the Border 2 script. Varun replied, “A war can never be won by an individual; it takes all forces to come together. In #border2 we have the army, navy, and air force together, oh yeah, and also the one-man army, Sunny Deol.”
Another user inquired about the lessons Varun learned from working with Sunny Deol, to which he stated, “Ignore the noise and connect with the audience.”
Border was originally based on the Battle of Longewala during the 1971 Indo-Pakistani War. Released in 1997, it is regarded as one of the most impactful war films. The sequel, Border 2, features an ensemble cast including Sunny Deol, Varun Dhawan, Diljit Dosanjh, Ahan Shetty, Sonam Bajwa, and Mona Singh, and is produced by T-Series. The film will debut on January 23, 2026.
