President Draupadi Murmu stated on Friday that in the face of global uncertainties, the Modi Government has displayed resolute determination to revitalize the economy, overcoming a period of ‘policy paralysis.’ She emphasized that India is united in its singular goal of becoming a developed nation by 2047.

At the beginning of her address, President Murmu paid her respects to the late former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, who recently passed away. She also honored the victims of the stampede at the Maha Kumbh, which occurred on Wednesday.

“Our Bharat, with a population of 140 crore, encompasses diverse states, regions, and languages, yet we share a unified identity as one nation—Bharat. Our commitment to achieving a ‘Viksit Bharat’—a developed India—remains steadfast,” President Murmu declared.

She highlighted the government’s determination to achieve sustained economic growth amidst global instability. “My government is dedicated to lifting the economy from a state of policy stagnation. Despite challenges, including the COVID-19 pandemic and other geopolitical issues, the Indian economy has showcased remarkable stability and resilience, asserting its strength,” she noted.

President Murmu outlined the government’s initiatives to enhance the business environment in India. “Significant measures have been implemented to ease business operations. The introduction of the GST system, rooted in the principle of ‘One Nation, One Tax,’ has yielded benefits across all states. Initiatives like Make in India have allowed many global brands to proudly carry the ‘Made in India’ label,” she stated.

She remarked that the pace of work has intensified significantly during the current term. “Today, the nation is witnessing the rapid implementation of major decisions and policies, prioritizing the poor, the middle class, youth, women, and farmers,” she said. The President emphasized that development is most meaningful when it directly benefits those at the bottom of the societal ladder. She cited initiatives like the construction of 12 crore toilets under the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, the distribution of 10 crore free LPG connections through the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana, provision of rations for 80 crore underprivileged individuals, the Saubhagya Yojana, and the Jal Jeevan Mission, all of which have fostered a sense of dignity among the poor.

“When individuals from impoverished backgrounds are afforded a dignified life, it empowers them to combat poverty effectively. As a result of these initiatives, 25 crore individuals have transcended poverty and are advancing in their lives. They represent a newly emerged middle class, contributing rejuvenated energy to India’s growth trajectory,” she asserted.

Murmu emphasized that the government has consistently pursued policies aimed at multi-dimensional and inclusive development. “In addition to focusing on physical infrastructure, my government has equally prioritized social infrastructure. Over the past decade, significant progress has been made, including a landmark digital revolution,” she remarked, highlighting India’s emergence as a key global player in the digital realm.

“The introduction of 5G services in India, in tandem with other leading nations, marks a crucial achievement in this regard. India’s Unified Payments Interface (UPI) technology has garnered admiration from many developed nations, with more than 50 percent of the world’s real-time digital transactions now occurring in India,” she concluded.
