Two teenage girls residing at the Sports Authority of India (SAI) hostel in Kollam, Kerala, were found dead in their room on Thursday morning, according to local police reports.

The victims have been identified as Sandra, 17, from Kozhikode district, and Vyshnavi, 15, from Thiruvananthapuram district. Sandra was an athletics trainee and a Plus Two student, while Vyshnavi was a Class 10 student and an aspiring kabaddi player.

The incident was discovered around 5 a.m. when the girls did not show up for their scheduled morning training session. Hostel authorities, after attempting to knock on the door several times without a response, forced entry and discovered both girls hanging from a ceiling fan.

Police indicated that Vyshnavi, who typically stayed in a separate room, had spent the previous night in Sandra’s accommodation. Both girls had been seen by other hostel residents earlier that morning.

The Kollam East police have registered a case and initiated an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the deaths. The cause of death has not yet been determined, and no suicide note was found in the room. Authorities plan to document statements from fellow trainees, coaches, and family members. The bodies will be returned to their families following post-mortem examinations, police stated.
