NEW DELHI: On Wednesday, U.S. President Donald Trump reposted Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s endorsement of his 20-point comprehensive peace plan for Gaza.
Prime Minister Modi’s post, which appeared on social media platforms X and Truth Social, stated, “We welcome President Donald J. Trump’s announcement of a comprehensive plan to end the Gaza conflict. It provides a viable pathway to long-term and sustainable peace, security, and development for the Palestinian and Israeli people, as well as for the broader West Asian region.” The message was subsequently shared in Arabic and Hebrew.
The peace plan was announced by Trump in conjunction with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Monday. This initiative aims to resolve the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict that escalated on October 7, 2023, outlining a 20-point framework that includes key measures such as an immediate ceasefire, the release of hostages, civilian protection, and enhanced regional cooperation. Moreover, the plan proposes international monitoring mechanisms to ensure compliance.
While the proposal has garnered global attention, its effectiveness is uncertain, particularly due to the lack of clarity on whether Hamas will accept the terms. Trump emphasized the necessity of a careful, step-by-step approach to establish stability in the region. Both Trump and Netanyahu have indicated that unilateral military action might be considered against Hamas if the plan is not embraced.
