TMC Councillor Arrested in Haringhata Amid Ongoing Investigations

A Trinamool Congress (TMC) councillor was arrested in Nadia district, West Bengal, on Friday. Rajib Dalal, who represents Ward 17 and is noted as the first chairman of Haringhata Municipality, was detained at his home. The arrest is reportedly linked to an altercation that occurred on the day of nomination filing for TMC candidate Rajib Biswas.

Dalal was alleged to have engaged in a dispute with the returning officer during this process. Following his apprehension, he was presented in the Kalyani sub-divisional court, which placed him in judicial custody until Monday.

The arrest has drawn significant backlash from Dalal’s family and political associates. His wife, Sujata Dalal, claimed that the arrest was politically motivated, while TMC leaders, including Chanchal Debnath and municipal chairman Debasish Bose, expressed that the arrest without prior notice was unjustified.
