Union Minister for Electronics and Information Technology, Ashwini Vaishnaw, announced on Saturday the establishment of two electronics manufacturing clusters in Tamil Nadu, with a total investment of ₹1,112 crore. This announcement was made during the inauguration of Zetwerk Electronics’ seventh manufacturing facility in Sriperumbudur, which is located about 55 kilometers from Chennai.

At the event, Vaishnaw emphasized the remarkable growth of the electronics sector, which has emerged as the country’s second-largest export sector over the past decade, outpacing many traditional industries. The newly inaugurated facility will be part of a total investment of ₹1,000 crore and will specialize in producing electronic components for a range of applications, including consumer electronics and IT hardware, with plans to cater to both domestic and international markets.

After unveiling the plaque to inaugurate the Zetwerk electronics plant, Vaishnaw discussed the rapid expansion of the electronics industry, highlighting its ascendance over several established export sectors in recent years. Rahul Sharma, co-founder of Zetwerk Electronics, stated that this new facility is the company’s seventh in India and is expected to create approximately 1,500 jobs, positioned strategically within a significant industrial zone.

To further bolster electronics manufacturing, Vaishnaw announced the government’s commitment to invest ₹1,112 crore in two large electronics manufacturing clusters. One will be situated in Pillaipakkam in Kancheepuram district, while the other will be located in Manalur, Thiruvallur district. Vaishnaw expressed confidence that these clusters would significantly contribute to the growth of not only Tamil Nadu but also the broader national economy.

The Union Minister also acknowledged the contributions of various state governments, particularly that of Tamil Nadu, in enhancing India’s electronic export capabilities. He recognized their role in fulfilling Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of transforming the domestic electronics market into a $500 billion industry.

Additionally, Vaishnaw, who also serves as the Union Minister for Railways, criticized the previous UPA government’s railway budget allocation to Tamil Nadu, contrasting it with the current allocation of ₹6,636 crore to the state.
