Hyderabad:

Sunrisers Hyderabad all-rounder Jack Edwards has been ruled out of the IPL 2026. The Australia international played just one T20I match in his career, but impressed head coach Daniel Vettori and captain Pat Cummins, which resulted in Hyderabad buying him for INR 3 crore in the auction. Meanwhile, he has played 77 T20 matches in his career, scoring 853 runs at a strike rate of 121.50 and has clinched 52 wickets at an economy rate of 8.32.

Meanwhile, Edwards became the second cricketer to suffer injury in the Hyderabad camp. Captain Cummins is set to miss the first few games of the season, as he is currently recovering from a back injury. In his absence, Ishan Kishan will lead the side, with Abhishek Sharma announced as his deputy.

Multiple pacers ruled out of IPL 2026

Three cricketers have pulled out of the IPL 2026 on March 19. The list includes Chennai Super Kings’ Nathan Ellis and Rajasthan Royals’ Sam Curran. Punjab Kings’ Lockie Ferguson also confirmed that he will miss a significant part of the first half of the cash-rich league due to the birth of his child.

CSK CEO Kasi Vishwanathan has already confirmed Ellis’ exit from the competition and noted that the franchise is currently in hunt for a replacement. They are very likely to sign Ottoneil Baartman, who is reported to be close to pulling out of his Pakistan Super League contract. He signed for PKR 1.1 for the Hyderabad-based side.

In case Baartman actually pulls out, he will become the third cricketer after Corbin Bosch and Blessing Muzarabani to cancel their PSL contract and sign for IPL.

On the other hand, Hyderabad and Rajasthan are currently in the hunt for an overseas all-rounder. However, it won’t be surprising if Hyderabad end up signing an overseas pacer instead, as their bowling lacks depth, especially in the absence of Cummins. They could eye someone like Spencer Johnson or Gerald Coetzee.
