SIT Charges Individual in Alleged Plot to Assassinate Farooq Abdullah

JAMMU: On Friday, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) filed a charge sheet against Kamal Singh Jamwal, 63, who is accused of attempting to assassinate former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Dr. Farooq Abdullah during a wedding ceremony in Jammu on March 11, 2023.

The SIT, established on March 14, shortly after the attempted shooting, reported that Jamwal, a resident of Jammu, allegedly fired a revolver at Abdullah as he was exiting the event in the Greater Kailash area. The weapon was confiscated by authorities at the scene.

The investigation revealed that Jamwal had developed significant resentment toward Abdullah, blaming him for various issues related to Kashmiri migrants and their properties. The SIT alleges that Jamwal arrived at the venue with a “pre-meditated mind and a specific intention to target Abdullah,” supported by both his behavior and evidence collected during the inquiry.

Currently, Jamwal is being held in District Jail in Jammu while further proceedings unfold.
