Congress MP Shashi Tharoor has filed a petition in the Delhi High Court against the dissemination of AI-generated deepfake videos that depict him making statements praising Pakistan and addressing “politically sensitive” topics. Tharoor is seeking protection for his personality rights in light of these developments.

During the proceedings, Justice Mini Pushkarna directed summons to be issued to X and Meta, along with the Indian government, and indicated that she would consider an interim order favorable to Tharoor. He emphasized the potential repercussions of such videos, stating, “I am a former external affairs minister. It matters to India’s standing as well… It is liable to be misused by foreign states.”
