Union Home Minister Amit Shah, during a recent event, dismissed claims made by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. K. Stalin regarding unfair treatment from the Central government, particularly concerning fund allocation. Shah characterized the Chief Minister’s remarks about delimitation as attempts to divert public attention from pressing issues.

He refuted Stalin’s assertions by stating that the Narendra Modi administration had allocated ₹5,08,337 crore to Tamil Nadu between 2014 and 2024. Furthermore, Shah accused Stalin of spreading misinformation regarding the delimitation process and clarified that no southern state, including Tamil Nadu, would experience a decrease in parliamentary representation, as any changes would be carried out proportionately.

During his address, Shah criticized the ruling Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) government for its handling of law and order in the state, claiming that anti-national activities were at an unprecedented level in Tamil Nadu. He specifically pointed out the security provided by the Tamil Nadu government for the funeral of SA Basha, the accused mastermind of a 1998 bomb blast.

Shah claimed that drug and illegal mining operations were rampant in the state, leading to widespread corruption, and he described DMK leaders as being particularly adept at corrupt practices. He expressed that while the people of Tamil Nadu were grappling with numerous issues, Stalin and his son, Udhayanidhi, were instead focusing on the delimitation issue to distract the public.

Mentioning an upcoming all-party meeting on delimitation scheduled for March 5, Shah reiterated that the Modi government had assured in the Lok Sabha that no southern state would lose parliamentary seats as a result of the exercise.

He expressed confidence that the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) would succeed in the upcoming Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, anticipating a larger victory than the NDA’s achievements in Maharashtra and Haryana. During the event, Shah also formally opened BJP party offices in Tiruvannamalai and Ramanathapuram via video conference.
