The renowned Indian hockey player, Rani Rampal, shared her excitement about taking on a new mentoring role in the upcoming Women’s Hockey Indian League during an exclusive conversation with India TV news. As the mentor and coach of the Soorma Hockey Club in Punjab and Haryana, Rani, a former Indian captain, is eager to pass on her wealth of experience to the next generation of players.

With over 250 international games under her belt, the 29-year-old forward has earned the title of ‘Queen of Indian Hockey’ and is now ready to embark on this new chapter in her career. In a one-on-one interview with India TV’s sports editor, Samip Rajguru, Rani expressed her eagerness to support and guide young Indian players in their development.

“This new role presents a challenge for me, but one that I am excited to take on as I have always been keen on exploring different aspects of the game beyond being a player,” said Rani Rampal. “I am committed to giving my all in this mentorship role and sharing my knowledge and experience to benefit the young players.”

Reflecting on the potential impact of the women’s hockey league, Rani highlighted its significance in providing a platform for aspiring female players and expanding India’s pool of talent. While acknowledging the struggles faced by the national women’s hockey team in recent years, Rani expressed optimism about the league’s role in bringing about positive change.

“I had initially considered participating in the league as a player, but I now see greater value in staying connected to the game as a mentor,” Rani explained. “I have fulfilled my role as a player, and now it is time to support and guide the emerging talents in this league. Mental support is crucial for young players, and I aim to provide that to help them thrive in the sport.”

She also emphasized the league’s potential in bolstering the development of women’s hockey in India and expanding the player base. With only four teams currently in the league, Rani expressed hope for more teams in future editions, providing more opportunities for young Indian girls to showcase their skills.

The Women’s Hockey Indian League holds promise for the growth and success of women’s hockey in India, with Rani Rampal’s mentorship poised to make a significant impact on the next generation of players.
