Rani Mukerji, a highly talented and versatile actress in Bollywood, is celebrating her birthday today. This is a perfect opportunity to shine a light on some of her underrated performances that deserve more recognition. Despite her immense success in mainstream hits, there are several films in her career that showcase her depth and versatility as an actress.

One such film is “Raja Ki Aayegi Baraat” (1997), Rani’s debut film, where she portrayed a rape victim fighting against societal rejection. Her powerful performance in this hard-hitting drama highlighted her potential right from the start, even though the film didn’t achieve much commercial success.

Another underrated gem is “Paheli” (2005), where Rani played the role of Lachchi, a Rajasthani bride torn between the love of her husband and a spirit. Her nuanced portrayal of longing and vulnerability in this fantasy film showcased her emotional depth and acting skills, despite the film’s underwhelming box office performance.

In “Baabul” (2006), Rani delivered an earnest performance as a widow seeking happiness and support from her family. Despite the film’s strong message about resilience, it didn’t receive the recognition it deserved, but Rani’s emotional depth in portraying a woman struggling with societal expectations was truly admirable.

“Hichki” (2018) saw Rani playing a teacher with Tourette’s Syndrome, who faces prejudice but overcomes it to make a difference in the lives of her students. Despite the meaningful theme of the film, it didn’t achieve the commercial success it deserved, but Rani’s inspiring and endearing performance stood out.

“Aiyya” (2012) was a unique and quirky film where Rani played an unconventional character attracted to a man’s scent. Despite the film’s lackluster box office performance, Rani’s ability to bring humor and charm to such a quirky role is something her fans continue to appreciate.

“Chalte Chalte” (2003), a romantic drama with Shah Rukh Khan, showcased Rani’s relatable portrayal of a woman navigating the complexities of love and marriage. Despite the charming chemistry between the leads, the film didn’t receive the attention it deserved commercially.

These are just a few examples of Rani Mukerji’s underrated performances that deserve more recognition. As we celebrate her birthday, let’s appreciate the remarkable depth and versatility she brings to each role, making her one of Bollywood’s finest talents.
