The Indian government informed the Supreme Court that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is personally overseeing reforms to the NEET-UG examination process, following the controversy surrounding a paper leak in 2026. The National Testing Agency (NTA) disclosed to the court that comprehensive security measures have been put in place for the upcoming examinations.

In financial news, Indian equity markets experienced a significant downturn, with the BSE Sensex plunging over 1,000 points. This drop resulted in nearly ₹5 lakh crore being wiped out from investor wealth, amid fears of a weak monsoon, continued foreign institutional investor selling, and uncertainties surrounding a potential US-Iran peace deal.

In a separate development, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) executed coordinated raids at 12 locations across Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Bihar, and Rajasthan. These actions are part of an investigation into a Pakistan-linked drone terror conspiracy involving the transportation of arms and explosives via drones across the India-Pakistan border.

In sports, Rishabh Pant has stepped down as captain of the Lucknow Super Giants following two underwhelming seasons in the Indian Premier League (IPL). The franchise confirmed that Pant requested to be relieved of his leadership duties. Pant, recognized as the most expensive player in IPL history after being acquired for ₹27 crore, struggled in both his captaincy and batting performance throughout his tenure.

Internationally, NATO condemned Russia following an incident in which a Russian drone crashed into an apartment building in Romania during an overnight attack on Ukraine. The incident resulted in injuries to two individuals and elicited strong responses from NATO officials and European leaders. Romanian authorities confirmed that the drone entered Romanian airspace before impacting the residential structure near the Ukrainian border.
