Prime Minister Narendra Modi penned a heartfelt letter to NASA astronaut Sunita Williams, who is set to return to Earth on Wednesday after a remarkable nine-month mission aboard the International Space Station. In his message, Modi extended an invitation for her to visit India upon her return.

The letter, dated March 1 and delivered through former NASA astronaut Mike Massimino, was shared on X by Union Minister of Science and Technology, Jitendra Singh.

As the world anticipates her safe return, Modi expressed his concern for Williams, stating, “Though you are thousands of miles away, you remain close to our hearts. The people of India are praying for your good health and success in your mission.”

He continued, “We eagerly look forward to your visit to India after your return. It would be a true honor for our country to host one of its most distinguished daughters.”

Modi reminisced about his meeting with Williams and her late father, Deepak Pandya, during his visit to the United States in 2016. He also recalled discussing her achievements with Massimino during a program in New Delhi, which prompted him to reach out to her.

The Prime Minister mentioned that he has inquired about Williams’ wellbeing during his meetings with U.S. Presidents Donald Trump and Joe Biden. He highlighted the immense pride that 1.4 billion Indians feel in her accomplishments, emphasizing that her recent experiences demonstrate her inspiring perseverance and strength.

Finally, Modi expressed his belief that Williams’ mother, Bonnie Pandya, must be eagerly awaiting her return and conveyed that he was sure “Deepakbhai” would be blessing her journey. He also extended warm regards to Williams’ husband, Michael Williams.
