Owaisi Seeks 6 Bihar Seats, Urges Alliance with RJD to Counter BJP

AIMIM leader Asaduddin Owaisi has announced his party’s readiness to form an alliance with the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), formally reaching out to Bihar’s Leader of Opposition Tejashwi Yadav. This move is part of AIMIM’s strategy as they prepare for the forthcoming assembly elections.

During a rally in Bihar’s Kishanganj district, Owaisi stated, “Akhtarul Iman has written a letter to the LoP here (Tejashwi Yadav) and we have conveyed through media that AIMIM is ready for alliance.” He indicated that AIMIM has requested six assembly seats but noted that the final decision lies with the RJD. He emphasized that any reluctance to collaborate would reveal to the people of Bihar who is truly committed to opposing the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Owaisi is currently embarking on a four-day campaign titled “Seemanchal Nyay Yatra,” scheduled from September 24 to 27, during which he plans to hold road shows and meetings in various assembly constituencies, focusing on issues of regional backwardness and development.

In a broader legislative effort, Owaisi has introduced a private member’s bill in the Lok Sabha, advocating for the establishment of a ‘Seemanchal Region Development Council’ under Article 371 of the Indian Constitution to address developmental challenges faced by the region.

In the previous 2020 Bihar elections, AIMIM contested 20 assembly seats, securing victories in five, all located in the Seemanchal area. As the 2025 elections approach, the party aims to contest even more seats, indicating a stronger ambition to influence Bihar’s political landscape.

The alliance discussions with the RJD and the ongoing yatra are crucial as AIMIM seeks to extend its influence beyond its traditional stronghold, positioning itself as a significant player in the state’s electoral dynamics.
