NABARD Estimates ₹2,106 Crore Credit Potential for Nagaland’s Priority Sector Development

The National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) has estimated a significant credit potential of ₹2,106.34 crore for the fiscal year 2025-26, focusing on priority sector activities in Nagaland. This forecast was unveiled during a seminar hosted by NABARD, with the announcement made by Agriculture Advisor Mhathung Yanthan.

According to the State Focus Paper (SFP), the projected credit allocation includes ₹712 crore for agriculture, ₹968 crore for Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSME), and ₹425 crore designated for other sectors. The document provides an in-depth evaluation of the credit availability for priority sectors such as agriculture, rural development, and infrastructure projects, aimed at guiding financial institutions in effectively distributing credit, as highlighted by NABARD’s General Manager, Pauliankap Bulte.

Bulte emphasized the importance of extending financial support to Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs) and underscored the need to strengthen Primary Agricultural Credit Societies (PACS), particularly those targeted for computerization under a central initiative. He pointed out the urgency of expediting the distribution of Kisan Credit Cards (KCCs), especially in relation to animal husbandry and fisheries.

“The state must prioritize agricultural development by improving irrigation infrastructure, enhancing horticultural capabilities, and advancing food processing, which can significantly transform the economy,” he noted.

In his remarks, Yanthan commended the state for surpassing its Ground Level Credit (GLC) target for the priority sector in the last financial year and urged the State Level Bankers’ Committee (SLBC) to take swift action in establishing physical bank branches in the 22 rural development blocks that currently lack banking facilities.
