Nifty Metal index was trading firm on Tuesday, rising 61.50 points or 0.61 per cent to 10,079.40 at 11.37 am, extending its positive momentum as metal stocks advanced across the board.
The sector showed resilience with broad-based buying interest, supported by strong volumes of 440.68 lakh shares and a total traded value of ₹1,500.90 crore. The index opened at 10,039.65, moving steadily higher through the session.
The benchmark remained comfortably above its previous close of 10,017.90, while intraday moves stayed within a narrow band, with a low of 10,027.90 and a high of 10,129.20. The broader strength was also reflected in market breadth, as 12 constituents advanced and only 3 declined, signaling sustained positive sentiment in the metal pack.
Among the top gainers, Hindustan Copper led the rally with a strong gain of 2.65 per cent, followed by Vedanta, which added 1.91 per cent. Hindustan Zinc also performed well, rising 1.57 per cent.
Other notable movers included Welspun Corp, Hindalco and JSW Steel, all contributing significantly to the index’s upward trajectory. Stocks such as SAIL, National Aluminium and Tata Steel posted moderate gains, reinforcing the sector’s overall firmness.
On the downside, a few stocks saw mild pressure. JSL slipped 0.74 per cent and Lloyds Metals declined 1.57 per cent.
