Lebanese Families Return Home Amid Ongoing Israeli Attacks and Uncertain Conditions

Tens of thousands of displaced Lebanese families have begun returning to their southern homeland despite ongoing Israeli shelling and home demolitions near the border. On Saturday, numerous vehicles filled with mattresses, bags, and flags traveled south as families assessed the condition of their homes, following a 10-day truce between Lebanon and Israel. However, the Lebanese army has advised residents to delay their return, while Hezbollah officials have expressed concerns about potential violations of the ceasefire, which has already seen nearly 2,300 casualties and the displacement of over one million individuals. Many returnees encountered homes that were either destroyed or severely damaged, prompting hesitance to remain. Despite these challenges, local leaders, such as deputy mayor Mustapha Bazzoun of Hanaway, are committing to restoring services and infrastructure to facilitate a safer return for residents.
