Kerala’s start-up scene has experienced a remarkable 20 percent increase in registrations, boasting over 3,500 active enterprises spanning various sectors. This notable rise in entrepreneurial activity emphasizes the state’s growing reputation as a center for innovation, according to Vinod Manjila, Chairman of CII Kerala.

The state has been acknowledged as the leading performer in the fourth edition of the States’ Start-up Ranking (2022) by the Union Ministry of Commerce and Industry, successfully maintaining its top position from the previous three editions.

Manjila noted that the evolving start-up ecosystem is significantly reshaping Kerala’s industrial landscape, paving the way for future industries that will stimulate economic development and generate substantial employment opportunities, especially for the educated youth.

On January 16, India celebrated nine years since the inception of the Start-up India initiative. The country has grown from merely 400 start-ups in 2016 to over 170,000 recognized start-ups today, illustrating India’s potential to become a global hub of innovation. The Start-up India initiative aligns perfectly with the vision of Viksit Bharat @ 2047, reflecting the Prime Minister’s aspiration to transform India into a developed nation by 2047, as stated by the CII Chairman.

The rise of start-ups has significantly accelerated digital transformation across various sectors. With the increasing adoption of digital tools and platforms, Kerala’s start-ups are crucial in constructing future industries through technological innovation, sustainability, and economic diversification. They focus on areas such as health-tech, agritech, fintech, edtech, and renewable energy, driving the transformation of traditional industries, fostering green technologies, and enhancing accessibility via digital solutions.

Looking forward, the CII Chairman expressed confidence that Kerala’s start-up ecosystem is poised for even greater expansion, bolstered by the government’s proactive policies aimed at simplifying regulations and providing additional resources.

CII Kerala has been a key player in promoting entrepreneurship and innovation, particularly through its startup panel and various sector-specific initiatives, Manjila added.
