Jannik Sinner Victorious at Italian Open, Completes Career Golden Masters

New Delhi: Jannik Sinner secured a significant win at the Italian Open final, defeating Casper Ruud with a score of 6-4, 6-4 and completing his Career Golden Masters, a milestone in tennis history. This victory marks the addition of the only ATP Masters 1000 title Sinner was missing, achieved on the prestigious Centre Court.

Sinner’s triumph makes him the first Italian since Adriano Panatta in 1976 to win the Rome title. He becomes only the second player to complete a Career Golden Masters, following Novak Djokovic, who accomplished the feat in 2018. Notably, Sinner broke Djokovic’s record for the youngest player to achieve a Career Golden Slam, doing so at the age of 24, while Djokovic was 31 when he secured the last of his titles in Cincinnati.

In his on-court interview, Sinner expressed joy over ending a long wait for an Italian champion in Rome. “I think this year was the 50th year since an Italian won, and I am really, really happy,” he stated. He acknowledged the tension during the match, indicating that it was not their best tennis but emphasized his happiness regarding the win. “It has been an incredible past two and a half months. I try to put myself in the best possible position every time and do the best I can.”

Sinner’s current victory is part of a remarkable streak, as he has won six consecutive ATP Masters 1000 titles, with his winning streak starting from the Paris Masters in 2025. Along the way to his Rome win, he has recorded the most consecutive matches won at the Masters level, surpassing another record previously held by Djokovic.

In addition to his historic title, Sinner extended his match-winning streak at the tour level to 34 victories, setting a new record after surpassing Djokovic’s previous best of 32 straight wins, achieved when he defeated Andrey Rublev in the quarterfinals in Rome.

Longest ATP Masters 1000 Winning Streaks: | Player | Streak | |—————–|——–| | Jannik Sinner | 34 | | Novak Djokovic | 31 | | Novak Djokovic | 30 | | Roger Federer | 29 |

Sinner has now won a total of 10 ATP titles and has claimed victory in all nine Masters 1000 events, including two Miami titles in 2024 and again in 2026.
