India’s Cricket Schedule for 2025: A Year of High Stakes and Anticipation

As cricket enthusiasts worldwide look forward to an exciting year in 2025, Team India’s schedule promises a rollercoaster of matches that could shape the direction of Indian cricket. After a year of mixed results, including tremendous highs and frustrating lows, the upcoming schedule is set to keep fans on the edge of their seats.

The year 2024 was particularly tumultuous for Indian cricket. The team faced a heartbreaking loss in the Boxing Day Test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, marking their first defeat in that fixture since 2011. However, redemption was found when India clinched the T20 World Cup, ending a 17-year drought for ICC trophies. Nonetheless, the heartbreaking loss in a three-match Test series at home—an unprecedented 0-3 defeat—has set the stage for reflection and improvement as they head into 2025.

Key Highlights of India’s Upcoming Matches

New Year Test Against Australia
Team India kicks off 2025 with a New Year Test against Australia, scheduled to take place in Sydney on January 3. This match will serve as an essential start for the players as they focus on regaining momentum after last year’s setbacks.

Home Series Against England
Following the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, India’s next set of fixtures features a gripping home series against England, comprising 5 T20Is and 3 ODIs. This series is pivotal, allowing the team to showcase their skills at home and seek revenge for past losses.

Champions Trophy
One of the most anticipated events in 2025 will be the ICC Champions Trophy. Scheduled to be held in the hybrid model in the UAE and Pakistan, Team India aims to secure the coveted title again. Key matches include competitions against strong teams like Pakistan and Bangladesh, which will test the squad’s mettle on the international stage.

World Test Championship Final
If India performs well, the players may also qualify for the World Test Championship (WTC) final set for June 11 at Lord’s. This could be a golden opportunity for India to assert their dominance in the Test format on one of cricket’s most prestigious grounds.

Tour of England
In a demanding phase of the calendar, from June through August, India will undertake a grueling five-match Test series against England as part of the WTC cycle. This series will not only be essential for points in the championship but will also be a test of endurance and skill on England’s familiar turf.

Asia Cup and Other Bilateral Series
Indian fans can look forward to a robust schedule, including the Asia Cup in October, where the T20 format will be in play. Additionally, there will be bilateral series against West Indies, Bangladesh, and a highly anticipated tour of Australia where they will play 3 ODIs and 5 T20Is.
