Exploring the Future of Television: Hisense’s RGB LED Technology Shines at CES 2025

The Consumer Electronics Show (CES) is always a significant event on the tech calendar, showcasing cutting-edge innovations and trends that shape the future of consumer electronics. At CES 2025, Hisense may not have revealed an expansive line-up of televisions, but what they did present—the 116-inch UX Trichroma TV—could very well redefine display technology.

What is the UX Trichroma TV?

Hisense’s UX Trichroma TV utilizes a groundbreaking RGB LED lighting system, a significant departure from conventional display technologies. Traditional LED TVs rely on a white or blue backlight filtered through color components, inevitably leading to light spillage or haloing effects around bright objects on dark backgrounds. In contrast, the UX Trichroma employs thousands of optical lenses, each housing red, green, and blue LEDs, enabling it to produce “pure colors directly at the source.” This capability promises not only enhanced brightness and accuracy but also a significant reduction in light bleed compared to standard LED displays.

RGB LED Technology Explained

The key innovation in Hisense’s technology is “RGB local dimming.” Unlike traditional local dimming methods that utilize grouped LEDs to create dimming zones for contrast control, RGB LED allows for better control of light output at a more granular level. This results in deeper blacks and improved contrast ratios, even challenging the supremacy of OLED and MicroLED displays, which have dominated the high-end TV market due to their emissive light capabilities.

Hisense claims that the RGB LED panel achieves a remarkable 97 percent of the BT.2020 color space, the most expansive display standard currently available. This achievement indicates a vibrant display characterized by colors so accurate and brilliant that they can elevate user experience to new heights, especially in richly colored content like movies and gaming.

The Brightness Wars: RGB LED vs. OLED

Currently, OLED displays are considered the gold standard for picture quality. Their ability to produce perfect blacks and near-infinite contrast levels has set them apart from previous generations of TVs. Models like Panasonic’s Z95A and LG’s G4 often push the boundaries of brightness, nearing peak brightness levels of 2,000 nits. However, Hisense’s RGB LED technology introduces a compelling factor in this ongoing “brightness wars.”

While OLED offers unparalleled performance in darker environments, bright displays have their advantages. Hisense’s RGB LED panel can achieve peak brightness that rivals some of the most advanced competing modes. Though OLED screens have made significant strides in achieving brightness, Hisense’s technology suggests that consumers may not have to compromise between brightness and color accuracy—a major consideration for watching TV in well-lit rooms.

What’s Next for Display Technology?

As we look toward the future, the arrival of RGB LED technology sets the stage for exciting developments in display capabilities. The potential for RGB LED to create stunningly realistic images without the drawbacks of traditional LED displays could reshape consumer preferences, especially as more viewers become aware of the advantages of advanced display technologies.

Hisense’s Trichroma TV may be just the beginning. As manufacturers continue to innovate, we can anticipate a new era for televisions characterized by breathtaking color performance, enhanced brightness, and better black levels. These developments promise to elevate our viewing experiences, whether we’re immersed in cinematic films, gripping video games, or engaging sports broadcasts.

In conclusion, as Hisense leads the charge with its RGB LED display technology at CES 2025, consumers can look forward to experiencing televisions that not only meet but exceed the expectations set by today’s leading technologies. The future of display technology looks incredibly bright, and Hisense exemplifies the potential of what’s to come.
