Delhi CM Opts Out of Arvind Kejriwal’s ‘Sheesh Mahal’; BJP Calls for Bungalow’s Restoration

On Monday, newly elected BJP MLA Vijender Gupta urged Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena to annul the merger of four properties connected to AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal’s “Sheesh Mahal” located at 6, Flagstaff Road.

As reported by PTI, Gupta stated that the bungalow had been extended by amalgamating four government properties, and he has formally requested the Lt Governor VK Saxena to revoke this amalgamation.

This revamped bungalow served as Arvind Kejriwal’s official residence from 2015 until October 2024, a position he vacated following his resignation in September of the previous year.

BJP leaders have used this bungalow as a focal point to target Kejriwal on corruption allegations during the Delhi Assembly Elections 2025.

New Delhi Chief Minister will not reside in this bungalow

Vijender Gupta, recently part of the seventh Delhi Assembly that was disbanded last week, asserted that the upcoming BJP chief minister would not inhabit the bungalow due to its ongoing investigation regarding alleged irregularities.

What did Gupta mention in his letter to the Delhi L-G?

In his letter to the Lt Governor, Gupta claimed that Kejriwal had transformed the bungalow into an “opulent ‘Sheesh Mahal'” by “illegally annexing” adjacent government properties.

“The extent of these unauthorized modifications raises significant concerns. What was intended as a standard official residence has been evolved into a space exceeding 50,000 square meters,” he asserted in the correspondence.

He detailed that the merged properties consisted of eight Type-V flats located at 45 and 47 Rajpur Road, along with two government bungalows (8-A and 8-B Flag Staff Road), combined with the bungalow at 6 Flagstaff Road.

“I urgently seek your intervention to revert these properties to their original individual status and restore 6 Flagstaff Road to its prior area of less than 10,000 square meters,” he articulated.

Gupta also called upon the Lt Governor to hasten the ongoing investigations into these purported violations, emphasizing that prompt action is vital for ensuring accountability and re-establishing public trust in governmental institutions.

For over two years, particularly during the Assembly election campaign, the BJP has vigorously attacked Kejriwal, accusing him of corruption, including irregularities associated with the bungalow’s reconstruction and its extravagant interiors, featuring high-end domestic appliances and fixtures.
