During a routine cleaning of Dal Lake on Saturday, staff from the Lake Conservation and Management Authority discovered remnants of a shell that exploded in the area during Operation Sindoor in May. The debris was promptly handed over to the nearest police station for further examination.

On May 10, a missile-like object had crashed into Dal Lake, a major tourist destination in Srinagar, following significant explosions that rattled the city. Witnesses reported smoke rising from the water’s surface, and security forces later retrieved the remains of the object. On the same day, another suspicious object was discovered in Lasjan, located on the outskirts of Srinagar. Multiple blasts were reported throughout the city on May 10.

Operation Sindoor was initiated as India’s military response to a terrorist attack in Pahalgam on April 22 that resulted in the deaths of 26 people.
