Chennai Super Kings’ Ramakrishna Ghosh Ruled Out of IPL 2026
New Delhi: The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have announced that all-rounder Ramakrishna Ghosh will miss the remainder of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 due to a right foot injury. The injury occurred during CSK’s recent match against the Mumbai Indians on May 2 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium.
In an official social media post, CSK stated, “Ramakrishna Ghosh sustained a fracture to his right foot during the CSK vs MI match at Chepauk. He will take no further part in IPL 2026. Get well soon, Rambo.”
This injury is particularly unfortunate for Ghosh, as it marked his IPL debut. In the match against the Mumbai Indians, he bowled three overs, conceding 24 runs while taking the wicket of Suryakumar Yadav. The specifics of how the injury occurred remain unclear, though it is reported that Ghosh sustained the injury while attempting a catch and subsequently fell during his follow-through.
CSK head coach Stephen Fleming acknowledged Ghosh’s potential and recent improvements in his training. “His improvement in recent weeks has been noticeable. He has been training really well at our academy sessions. It’s disappointing that he got injured towards the end,” Fleming noted. He highlighted Ghosh’s batting capabilities as an area of substantial growth, emphasizing his status as an all-rounder.
The team is already facing challenges due to the absence of several key players. Fast bowler Nathan Ellis was ruled out prior to the commencement of the tournament, with Spencer Johnson stepping in as his replacement. Khaleel Ahmed and star batter Ayush Mhatre are also unavailable, with Akash Madhwal named as Mhatre’s replacement.
In the latest match, CSK secured an eight-wicket victory over the Mumbai Indians, which was crucial for their standings in the tournament. CSK captain Ruturaj Gaikwad delivered a pivotal performance, scoring an unbeaten 67 runs off 48 balls. He received support from Urvil Patel and Kartik Sharma, with the latter contributing significantly by helping to chase down a target of 160. CSK’s victory marks their fourth win in nine matches, placing them in the sixth position on the points table and keeping their playoff hopes alive.
In related news, CSK’s win dealt a severe blow to the Mumbai Indians, who have now suffered their seventh defeat of the IPL 2026 season, casting doubt on their playoff prospects.
