Congress Accuses Targeted Exclusion of Dalit, Muslim Women from Bihar Voter List

The Congress party on Sunday accused the Election Commission of India (ECI) of removing the names of approximately 2.27 million women from Bihar’s voter list during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR), highlighting that many of these women reside in 59 assembly constituencies that witnessed close contests during the 2020 elections.

Alka Lamba, the president of the All India Mahila Congress, addressed a press conference at the party’s Indira Bhawan headquarters in Delhi, alleging that the ECI is “targeting” Dalit and Muslim women voters. She described the widespread removal of names from the voter rolls as a “well-planned conspiracy” executed during the SIR process.

Lamba questioned the validity of the ECI’s actions, stating, “When these women cast their votes in the Lok Sabha elections last year, were those votes fraudulent? Did MPs elected through those supposed fake votes help form the government?”

In a video shared on Twitter, Lamba reiterated, “As per ECI’s September 30 list, the votes of 2.27 million women have been removed in Bihar. We demand an answer on what basis these votes have been cut off… These are the seats where there was a close contest between…”

Lamba further alleged that under the direction of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah, the Election Commission is perpetrating massive fraud in the name of SIR in Bihar. According to Lamba, Bihar has around 35 million women voters, yet around 2.27 million names have been struck from the rolls. She contended that this exclusion would disenfranchise these women in the upcoming assembly elections, labeling the action as “unconstitutional.”

She identified Gopalganj, Saran, Begusarai, Samastipur, Bhojpur, and Purnea as districts with the highest instances of deletions, collectively accounting for approximately 60 assembly constituencies.

According to Lamba, the 2020 assembly election results saw the INDIA bloc parties winning 25 seats while the NDA secured 34, many of which were closely contested. She asserted that “the Election Commission has committed massive fraud in these very constituencies under the guise of SIR.”

Moreover, Lamba stated that in addition to the 2.27 million women, around 1.5 million men have also had their names removed from the voter list in Bihar. In response, the Congress party plans to initiate a nationwide signature campaign, aiming to collect five crore signatures to protest what they term as “vote theft.”

Lamba reiterated concerns regarding the validity of previously cast votes, asking, “When these same women voted in last year’s Lok Sabha elections, were their votes still fake? Did those fraudulent votes elect MPs who formed the government?”

She claimed a deliberate effort is underway to manipulate electoral rolls by making last-minute alterations. “We will expose it,” she vowed.

Concluding her remarks, Lamba accused Prime Minister Modi of simultaneously influencing voters through direct monetary transfers while colluding with the Election Commission to remove nearly 2.27 million women’s names from the voter list. “Modi has targeted and cancelled women’s votes and taken away their rights. But no matter how much Narendra Modi and the Election Commission try, we will not allow vote theft to happen in Bihar.”
