New Delhi: Lucknow Super Giants secured a significant victory over Chennai Super Kings in the 59th match of the IPL (Indian Premier League) 2026, held at Ekana Stadium in Lucknow on May 15th. The win bolstered Lucknow’s standing as Chennai sought to enhance their chances of qualifying for the next round.
Chennai opted to bat first, but their top order struggled to make an impact. However, Kartik Sharma’s performance proved noteworthy as he scored 71 runs off 42 balls, leading CSK to a total of 187 runs in the first innings.
Former India cricketer Kris Srikkanth commented on Sharma’s performance, expressing surprise at his innings. “I’ve not been pro-Kartik Sharma, but I was very impressed with this knock. He took on Prince Yadav quite a bit, knowing he’s the most dangerous bowler. Once he got set, he looked deadly. I never expected Kartik Sharma to play so well on this wicket. I thought he shouldn’t have even played this game. But he made me eat back my words,” Srikkanth noted in a video on his YouTube channel.
Srikkanth highlighted an area for improvement, stating, “The only thing is, he plays several dots after hitting a six or a four. He has to learn how to take a single after a six and give the strike to Dewald Brevis. Brevis lost momentum because he didn’t get strike in the partnership with Kartik Sharma.”
Looking ahead, Chennai Super Kings will face Sunrisers Hyderabad on May 18th in their next match at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. With Sunrisers well placed in the top four, the upcoming match promises to be intriguing for both teams.
