West Indies cricket icon Brian Lara visited the West Indies dressing room following a difficult day during their two-match tour of India. The West Indies suffered a heavy defeat in the first Test in Ahmedabad, finishing within two days, and now face another challenging situation in the second Test in Delhi.

In their first innings, India declared at 518 for 5, thanks to centuries from captain Shubman Gill and opening batsman Yashasvi Jaiswal. The West Indies began their response promisingly but lost momentum as wickets fell rapidly, concluding the day at 140 for 4, with 378 runs still needed to match India’s score.

Lara is currently on a mission alongside fellow legend Viv Richards to assist the financially struggling Cricket West Indies in generating additional funds to improve the infrastructure of their long-format game. According to a source close to the situation, Lara spent approximately 20 minutes in discussion with coach Darren Sammy, captain Roston Chase, and a few players, focusing on the broader health of West Indies cricket and potential paths forward.

During a recent media appearance at the CEAT Cricket Rating awards, Lara called on the players to assess their commitment to the sport. “I would like to urge Roston Chase and the other guys to ask themselves, do they have cricket at heart? Do they really want to play for the West Indies?” Lara emphasized the importance of passion for the game. He reflected on the conditions faced by past players, stating, “We did not have better facilities 30-40 years ago…but the passion was different. I urge the young players to realize that this is a wonderful opportunity.”
