BJP’s Kushal Dowari Triumphs Over Akhil Gogoi in Sibsagar Election Results 2026

Akhil Gogoi of the Raijor Dal has triumphed in the Sibsagar Assembly constituency election, garnering 86,521 votes. He defeated his BJP opponent, Kushal Dowari, by a margin of 17,272 votes. The election, part of the 2026 assembly elections, saw Gogoi’s party allied with Congress to contest against Dowari and the BJP.

The electoral rolls for the 2026 elections in Sibsagar included 209,976 registered voters: 103,484 males, 106,491 females, and one individual from the third gender. Recent exit polls indicate that the incumbent government, led by Himanta Biswa Sarma, may secure a third consecutive term, with many pollsters projecting a favorable outcome for the BJP in this critical Assam election.

Sibsagar, a general (unreserved) seat in the Sivasagar district, is one of ten assembly segments within the Jorhat parliamentary constituency. In the 2021 assembly elections, Sibsagar had 152,087 registered voters, with 124,219 valid votes cast. In that election, Akhil Gogoi, running as an independent, won the seat with 57,219 votes, while BJP candidate Surabhi Rajkonwari placed second with 45,344 votes, marking a loss by 11,875 votes.

The constituency’s electoral history includes the 2016 assembly elections when Congress candidate Pranab Kumar Gogoi secured victory with 48,584 votes against BJP’s Surabhi Rajkonwar, who received 48,042 votes. The victory margin in that election was a narrow 542 votes.
