Kalyan Chakraborti of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) emerged victorious in the Khardaha assembly constituency, securing 97,752 votes. He defeated Devadeep Purohit of the All India Trinamool Congress (TMC), who garnered 73,266 votes, with a margin of 24,486 votes.

Khardaha, designated as assembly seat No. 109, is located in the North 24 Parganas district of West Bengal. It is part of the Dum Dum Lok Sabha constituency and encompasses Khardaha municipality along with adjacent urban areas. This predominantly urban constituency, which is 89% urbanized, has around 240,672 registered electors and features 241 polling stations. The Scheduled Caste (SC) and Scheduled Tribe (ST) populations comprise 14.93% and 1.7%, respectively, of the total demographic. In the 2021 election, voter turnout was recorded at 78.76%.

In the main 2021 election, prior to the November bypoll, TMC’s Kajal Sinha won with 89,807 votes, representing a 49% share, outpacing BJP’s Shilbhadra Dutta, who received 61,667 votes (34% share), by 28,140 votes. The TMC maintained control over this urban seat since 2011. However, following Sinha’s death due to COVID-19 in April 2021, the seat was subsequently retained by the TMC during the by-elections, with Sovandeb Chattopadhyay being elected as the new MLA.
