Bihar Alliance Names Tejashwi Yadav as CM Candidate for Upcoming Elections

Rashtriya Janata Dal leader and former Bihar deputy chief minister Tejashwi Yadav was declared the Chief Ministerial face of the alliance on Thursday.

The announcement was made in Patna by All India Congress Committee (AICC) senior observer for Bihar Assembly Polls Ashok Gehlot in the presence of Yadav and other leaders of the alliance, including VIP Chief Mukesh Sahani, Bihar Congress- In-charge Krishna Allavaru, Bihar Pradesh Congress Committee (BPCC) President Rajesh Ram, CPI(ML) leader Dipankar Bhattacharya, and others.

VIP Chief Mukesh Sahani was named as the Deputy Chief Ministerial face of the alliance.

Gehlot said, “One more Deputy CM will be announced later.”

After being declared as the Chief Ministerial candidate for the upcoming Assembly elections, Tejashwi Yadav asserted that the opposition Mahagathbandhan together will throw out the “useless” 20-year-old double-engine government in the State.

Yadav said: “We, the people of Mahagathbandhan, do not just want to form the government or become the CM, but we want to make Bihar, which is why we are together. I thank all the members of the Mahagathbandhan for showing trust in me. I want to assure all of them that I will do everything possible to meet your expectations. Together, we will throw the useless 20-year-old double-engine government, where one engine is corrupt. The other is criminal.”

“When elections were held in 2020, and when the NDA thought they had no opposition, the people of Bihar made us a strong opposition. The state has been waiting for this election for a long time. This election is very important for all the youth who have been lathi-charged, and all the women who were promised jobs, said CPI(ML) leader Dipankar Bhattacharya at the press conference. “We want to assure everyone that Bihar is ready, and our Mahagathbandhan of seven parties will bring change unitedly,” he added.

Endorsing Yadav’s candidature for the CM post, the INDIA alliance leaders questioned the NDA alliance for not rallying behind incumbent Nitish Kumar as their leader.

“Injustice is being done with Bihar CM Nitish Kumar. No press conferences or confirmation of CM face has been done yet by NDA. We have been saying for a long time that Nitish Kumar will not be made the next Chief Minister. This has been confirmed by none other than Union Home Minister Amit Shah himself,” Tejashwi Yadav said at the presser.

“NDA has not even announced a name, they are saying that MLAs will decide who their leader will be. So, tell me who is late? It is Bihar which is 20 years late on the path to development… Strategies have been decided on all seats…There is no confusion on our side,” said Congress spokesperson Pawan Verma, according to ANI news agency.
