Andhra Pradesh to Recruit 3,300 Teachers for Universities Amid Staff Shortage

The Government of Andhra Pradesh is preparing to recruit 3,300 teaching positions across 17 universities in the state in the near future. Currently, the process of reviewing applications for Vice-Chancellor (VC) positions is underway, and the recruitment of teaching staff will commence once the VC appointments are finalized, according to official sources.

It has been over a decade since there was any recruitment in state universities. Although the previous YSR Congress Government initiated a unified process for filling vacant university positions, this initiative faced legal challenges due to allegations of irregularities, as well as resistance from some universities that argued for greater autonomy in higher education hiring practices, particularly for positions above the assistant professor level.

The new NDA government is also focusing on restructuring university management to minimize political interference. Recently, Professor Madhu Murthy, a respected academic and member of the Warangal NEET Board of Governors, was appointed as the Chairman of the Andhra Pradesh Higher Education Council.

This appointment paves the way for selecting new Vice-Chancellors and implementing additional reforms to fortify state universities. The APSCHE Chairman position had been vacant for nearly five months following the resignation of the previous chairman, Hema Chandra Reddy, after the YSR Congress Party lost its mandate in the recent state assembly elections held in May of this year.
