NEW DELHI: Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) on Friday released a video alleging that AMMK MLA-elect Kamaraj wrote a letter expressing support for their party. This move directly counters claims from AMMK General Secretary T. T. V. Dhinakaran, who stated that the document was forged during a critical period of government formation in Tamil Nadu.

The controversy escalated when Dhinakaran visited Lok Bhavan to meet Governor Rajendra Arlekar, presenting a letter affirming that AMMK’s sole MLA-elect remained committed to the NDA and AIADMK alliance. He additionally endorsed AIADMK leader Edappadi K. Palaniswami as the alliance’s candidate for Chief Minister.

In response, TVK released a video, asserting it captured Kamaraj willingly and happily writing the support letter. The party maintained that Kamaraj’s decision to support them was made with Dhinakaran’s approval. “These visuals demonstrate that Kamaraj was expressing his support for the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam. The claims that he did not write the letter are completely false,” the party stated.

TVK also accused Dhinakaran of spreading misinformation to undermine their position. “It is crucial for all to recognize the truth behind this situation. Dhinakaran’s attempts to discredit the development are misleading,” the statement continued. They emphasized that TVK was not engaging in political negotiation to secure support, asserting, “The public should know that the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam has no need to bargain with anyone.”

TVK has emerged as the single largest party in the 234-member Assembly, securing 108 seats, which is ten seats short of a majority. The party is actively seeking support from smaller parties and independents to claim the opportunity to form the government.

The Congress party, which won five seats, along with CPI and CPI(M), each gaining two seats, have pledged their support to TVK, marking a significant political shift within the state and challenging the longstanding DMK-Congress alliance.

Congress MP Manickam Tagore criticized rivals for obstructing Vijay’s ascent to power, stating that those defeated in the elections are trying to impede Vijay from becoming Chief Minister. “Power may delay the people’s verdict, but it can never suppress it forever,” Tagore remarked on social media platform X.
