Summary

HEG Advanced Materials has seen its shares rise nearly 8% following significant order wins and the anticipated value creation from an upcoming demerger into specialized entities. The subsidiary Replus Engitech’s recent contracts with Indus Towers for Lithium-Ion Battery Banks further bolster investor confidence.

Operational Highlights and Recent Wins

Shares of HEG Advanced Materials opened at ₹235.60 on the National Stock Exchange (NSE) and peaked at ₹256.47 during Tuesday’s trading, marking an approximate 8% increase. This uptick comes on the heels of substantial orders received by Replus Engitech, a subsidiary focusing on energy technologies. In September, Replus secured orders totaling ₹218 crore from Indus Towers for the supply of Lithium-Ion Battery Banks, followed by an additional order worth ₹127 crore announced on October 1. This order is set to be fulfilled by May 31, 2027.

The collaboration between Replus and Indus Towers includes a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at exploring Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) solutions for telecom infrastructure. As part of this initiative, Replus plans to allocate a dedicated BESS production capacity of 1.5 GWh over the next two years, aimed at bolstering the telecom energy storage landscape. This strategic focus not only enhances Replus’s existing portfolio but also positions it as a key player in emerging battery technologies, such as sodium-ion batteries.

Demerger and Future Prospects

The upcoming demerger is another significant factor fueling investor enthusiasm. Under this restructuring scheme, HEG Advanced Materials will spin off its graphite electrode business into a separate entity named HEG Graphite, which is poised for listing by the end of October. Shareholders of HEG Advanced Materials will benefit from this move, receiving one fully paid-up equity share of HEG Graphite for each equity share they own, based on the record date of September 7.

Leadership for the demerged entities has also been defined. Ravi Jhunjhunwala will guide HEG Graphite as Chairman, Managing Director, and CEO starting from September 1, 2026, while Riju Jhunjhunwala assumes a similar role at HEG Advanced Materials, set for a five-year term pending shareholder approval. Post-demerger, HEG Advanced Materials will concentrate on developing anode materials, graphene, and silicon-based anodes, aiming to carve a niche in the rapidly evolving battery market.

What This Means

The recent developments surrounding HEG Advanced Materials reflect broader trends in the Indian materials and technology sectors, particularly as the country pushes towards sustainable energy solutions. The focus on lithium-ion battery technologies is aligned with India’s ambitious goals to enhance energy storage capabilities for various applications, including telecommunications and electric vehicles. The demerger will allow both entities to specialize in their respective domains, potentially leading to accelerated growth and innovation. Investors may see this as a strategic move to unlock value and improve operational efficiencies in disciplined market segments.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the reason behind the surge in HEG Advanced Materials’ shares?

The surge is primarily due to significant order wins from its subsidiary and the anticipated benefits from an upcoming demerger that will create specialized companies focusing on graphite and advanced materials.

What does the demerger entail for shareholders?

Under the demerger scheme, shareholders of HEG Advanced Materials will receive one fully paid-up equity share of the new entity, HEG Graphite, for each share they hold, ensuring that current investors are compensated for the company’s division.

What role do lithium-ion batteries play in this context?

Lithium-ion batteries are at the forefront of contemporary energy solutions, especially in telecommunications and electric vehicles. Replus Engitech’s focus on this area aligns with future energy storage needs, which are critical for the Indian market’s transition to sustainable technologies.

Who will lead the new entities post-demerger?

Ravi Jhunjhunwala will head HEG Graphite, while Riju Jhunjhunwala will continue as the CEO of HEG Advanced Materials, guiding each company’s focus according to its specialized mission within the market.
