NEW DELHI: The Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) announced on Tuesday that activist Sonam Wangchuk will participate in its protest planned for June 6. This demonstration is part of the CJP’s campaign calling for the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
Wangchuk, a prominent educationist and Ramon Magsaysay Award recipient, confirmed his attendance through a post on X, stating, “I will be joining the CJP members in Delhi on 6th June if nothing changes by 5th June. Any self-respecting Minister should resign if things go so wrong… Not to mention the effect on millions of young lives and, in fact, the future of India.”
Previously, Wangchuk had expressed his support for the CJP, referring to himself as an “honorary cockroach.” He remarked, “I have been asked from several quarters to speak on it. Some are saying I should also become a member. I think I do not qualify—I am neither unemployed nor am I lazy. So sadly, I am not a member. But I consider myself an honorary cockroach.”
On June 5, CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke stated that he would return to Delhi on June 6 to initiate a peaceful protest demanding Pradhan’s resignation due to alleged failures related to examinations. In a video posted on social media, Dipke encouraged students and supporters to meet him at the airport before heading to the Parliament Street Police Station to seek permission for a demonstration at Jantar Mantar.
Dipke highlighted ongoing controversies involving NEET, CBSE, CUET, and SSCGD, arguing that millions of students have been impacted by systemic issues and that accountability is necessary. He emphasized that the protest would be non-violent and would adhere to constitutional and democratic principles, despite concerns from his family regarding potential legal repercussions upon his return.
