Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed various topics during the 134th episode of Mann Ki Baat on Sunday, including inspiring stories of social service, water conservation, sports achievements, summer health precautions, and the cultural significance of mangoes in India.
In his monthly radio program, PM Modi emphasized citizen engagement, the celebration of grassroots initiatives, and the recognition of achievements across multiple sectors. He encouraged the public to recognize and appreciate individuals contributing positively to society. “Recognize those people who are doing good work for the society, appreciate them, learn from them, and if possible, become part of some good cause yourself,” he stated. The Prime Minister remarked that stories of selfless service could motivate others to participate in nation-building efforts.
With summer in full swing, PM Modi praised India’s diverse mango varieties and the farmers involved in mango cultivation. He noted, “With the advent of summers, another discussion begins in every household – that is about mangoes…” He highlighted popular varieties like Hapus from Maharashtra, Kesar from Gujarat, Dasheri from Uttar Pradesh, and Langda from Kashi, and added, “I would like to praise my farmer friends associated with mango cultivation. For a country’s agricultural economy, you are not an ordinary farmer, but a special one…”
Addressing the ongoing heatwave affecting much of the country, PM Modi urged citizens to take necessary precautions and adhere to government advisories. “Currently, most parts of the country are reeling under intense heat… It is very important to take care of yourself in this season – keep drinking water, be careful while going out in the sun,” he advised, underscoring the significance of staying hydrated.
He also highlighted traditional summer beverages from various regions, describing them as representations of India’s cultural diversity. “You are also familiar with the traditional drinks. In Northern Bharat, you will find Aam Panna… Lassi is found in Punjab and Haryana… Kokum Sharbat, Sol Kadhi are consumed in Konkan and Goa,” he noted, encouraging people to enjoy these traditional drinks during the summer months.
The Prime Minister commended initiatives aimed at restoring rivers, ponds, and wells, stating that community-led conservation efforts play a vital role in preserving water resources. “Saving and rejuvenating a river, pond, or well that holds cherished childhood memories brings a special sense of joy and satisfaction,” he remarked.
In addition, PM Modi congratulated athletes who recently set new national records, highlighting India’s increasing sporting achievements. “A few days back, the National Senior Athletics Federation Competition was held in Jharkhand’s Ranchi… During this, four national records were broken in four different events,” he said, specifically mentioning sprinters Gurindervir Singh and Animesh Kujur for their outstanding performances.
The episode underscored themes of public participation, social responsibility, cultural pride, and collaborative efforts towards nation-building, focusing on the contributions of ordinary individuals making remarkable impacts across various sectors.
