The Uttar Pradesh government’s Namami Gange and Rural Water Supply Department conducted extensive transfers of officials on Friday, utilizing a fully transparent and digital process aimed at combating corruption and reducing human interference. Under the guidance of Jal Shakti Minister Swatantra Dev Singh, the department carried out an open selection process that involved both ministers and senior officers, allowing for merit-based postings.

A total of 170 officials and staff members were transferred, comprising 131 from the Rural Water Supply Department, 28 from the Minor Irrigation Department, and 11 from the Groundwater Department. This included the transfers of two Chief Engineers, 15 Superintending Engineers, 35 Executive Engineers, 40 Assistant Engineers, and 78 Junior Engineers.

To enhance transparency, the department set up eight digital screens displaying available postings. Officials were called individually to select their preferred districts, with choices immediately recorded in the system. Transfer letters were subsequently sent to the officials’ mobile phones within moments. Those unable to attend in person could participate online, presenting their choices live to senior officials and ministers.

According to the department, seniority and work performance were evaluated using Key Performance Index (KPI) scores, which served as the basis for the transfer process. Additional Chief Secretary Anurag Srivastava stated that this initiative reflects Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath’s commitment to a zero-tolerance policy regarding corruption and has fostered greater confidence among employees. Officials characterized the exercise as a significant advancement towards transparent governance within the state’s water management departments.
