New Delhi: In the 2026 IPL (Indian Premier League) Eliminator, the Rajasthan Royals faced off against Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in New Chandigarh on May 27. The Rajasthan Royals triumphed, securing their place in Qualifier 2 of the tournament.
A standout performer was 15-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, who scored an impressive 97 runs off just 29 balls, coming close to breaking Chris Gayle’s record for the fastest century in IPL history. The Royals set a formidable first innings total of 243 runs and contained Sunrisers Hyderabad to 196 runs, resulting in a victorious margin of 47 runs. This match also set a new record for the most sixes hit in an IPL playoff, with a total of 26 sixes, surpassing the previous record of 25 set during the MI-GT match in the 2025 Eliminator.
Riyan Parag Reflects on Performance
In the post-match presentation, Rajasthan Royals captain Riyan Parag discussed his team’s performance, expressing a desire for improvement despite the victory. “Yeah, a good game. Again, I think I like to be a perfectionist. I know it’s not going to be a perfect game altogether. But even today, we should have gotten 260, right? So a bit to work on that. How to finish off innings after we get a start like Vaibhav did,” Parag commented. He also praised his bowling unit for managing to maintain composure after a rocky start. “They got a lot of runs in the second over or the first, once Ishan and Travis added a few boundaries, but I think we came back really well,” he added.
The match showcased high-octane cricket, solidifying Rajasthan Royals’ trajectory in the ongoing season of the IPL.
