Iceland’s Prime Minister Kristrún Frostadóttir highlighted the word “sambandh” during the India-Nordic Summit, noting its linguistic and emotional significance for both India and Iceland. Her comments followed remarks made by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who emphasized that the term shares the same meaning in several Nordic languages as it does in Hindi.
“Through the free trade agreements, we’ve witnessed an increase in investments from Iceland to India. There’s much we can achieve together, and I must express my admiration for the word ‘sambandh.’ It is a deeply cherished term in Icelandic, reflecting the devotion of its speakers,” Frostadóttir stated. She emphasized the need for more “sambandh” in today’s world, aligning her sentiments with Modi’s focus on strengthening connections.
Modi had reiterated the importance of the term, stating, “Today, I used the word ‘sambandh’ multiple times. In several Nordic languages, it signifies connection, relations, a bond. In Hindi, ‘sambandh’ conveys the same meaning. This reflects not just a similarity of terms, but the closeness of our thoughts. Let us deepen our bonds across all sectors and make the India-Nordic partnership a model for shared prosperity, innovation, and a sustainable future.”
The summit brought together leaders from India and the Nordic countries—Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, and Sweden—to establish a collaborative vision for future cooperation, with an emphasis on sustainability, environmental responsibility, and advanced technological partnerships.
