Bayer has announced that its FarmRise app has achieved a milestone of 5 million users. This marks a significant development in the company’s ongoing efforts to expand its digital ecosystem tailored for Indian farmers, led by the FarmRise platform and complemented by various direct-to-farmer (D2F) initiatives. These initiatives encompass advisory services, insurance solutions, credit provisions, market access, and sustainable farming practices.
In a media statement, Bayer highlighted that FarmRise has become one of India’s most influential agri-tech platforms, with over 5 million registered farmers utilizing its services nationwide. In the past 18 months, the app has experienced substantial growth in installs, monthly active users, and the adoption of its features.
The mobile app has been designed to address the genuine needs of farmers by consolidating agronomy advice, local weather forecasts, mandi prices, government schemes, and crop-specific information into a single, user-friendly interface. To make it accessible, the platform supports nine Indian languages.
FarmRise also includes an anti-counterfeit scanning feature, enabling farmers to verify the authenticity of products directly through the application. This capability has already recorded more than 10 million scans, according to Bayer. Launched in 2025, the platform’s in-house AI-powered chatbot offers instant answers to crop and farming-related inquiries in straightforward language, having already addressed 25,000 questions from farmers.
The statement further emphasized that FarmRise is part of a broader D2F ecosystem designed to meet various farmer needs throughout the agricultural value chain. This includes FarmRise One, a digital marketplace platform that integrates with on-ground operations and supports over 500 farmer producer organizations (FPOs) and more than 200,000 farmers.
Bayer’s Alivio digital platform utilizes high-resolution satellite data to provide plot-specific insights and risk protection for smallholder farmers confronting weather uncertainties. Unlike conventional insurance offerings, Alivio activates prompt benefits when certain agronomic thresholds are crossed, allowing farmers to redeem these benefits immediately at nearby Bayer retailers for seeds and crop protection inputs. This service is currently available for specific crops such as onions and corn, with plans for expansion to additional crops in the near future.
Simon Wiebusch, Country Divisional Head for Bayer’s Crop Science Division in India, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka, stated: “FarmRise is not just an app; it is becoming a strong digital foundation for how we engage with farmers at scale. Technology for us is not about replacing relationships; it is about amplifying trust by combining our field expertise with digital and AI-driven solutions.”
