New Delhi: The Gujarat Titans donned a special lavender jersey for their match against Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, a crucial fixture as the race for the IPL playoffs intensifies. Both teams entered the match with 14 points from 11 matches, with Sunrisers Hyderabad occupying second place and the Titans in third. The victor would secure the top position and edge closer to playoff qualification.
The Titans are wearing lavender jerseys to raise awareness in the fight against cancer. In their match preview, the Titans emphasized that this game transcends cricket, stating, “As we prepare to face Sunrisers Hyderabad in the TATA IPL 2026 at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Tuesday, May 12, we will once again take the field in our special lavender jerseys to support the fight against cancer.” This marks the fourth consecutive season the Titans are representing this cause.
In the match’s toss, Sunrisers’ captain Pat Cummins opted to bowl first after winning the toss. “We’re going to have a bowl first. We’ve not played here before, so have a first look at it with the ball, and then whatever we need to chase, hopefully gets a little bit easier later on,” Cummins remarked. He acknowledged the influence of data suggesting teams batting first have had better outcomes on this pitch but also noted the unpredictability of pitch conditions.
Gujarat’s captain, Shubman Gill, expressed his inclination to bowl first as well, unaware of the historical batting record on this surface. “We’re gonna see about that. I’m not about stats. We were also looking to bowl first, looks like a better wicket compared to the last couple of matches,” Gill stated. Both teams retained their lineups for the match.
